We are close by to the Theatre Royal, Plymouth Pavilions, the historic Barbican with its famous Mayflower Steps, original cobbled streets, art shops and a cosmopolitan dining experience overlooking the quayside at Sutton Harbour.
The National Marine Aquarium has a national reputation and makes an ideal half-day visit if the weather is less than perfect, as does the new Drake Circus shopping centre. Plymouth University, the Central Library and the City Museum and Art Gallery are all close together near the shopping centre, and Plymouth College is just up the road from there.
The seventeenth century Royal Citadel dominates the eastern end of Plymouth Hoe; nearby is the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, in front of which is The Hoe Promenade where you can watch the Naval ships pass by or take a sightseeing tour by boat passing Drakes Island and the Naval dockyard.
Within walking distance of Westwinds are many cafés, bars and restaurants to suit most palates.
